Viktoriia Kurganskaia

Viktoriia Kurganskaia is an artist based in Germany.
The main idea of her art is to transform the material, change it and combine it with others. Millions of years ago the surface of the earth was liquid, and now in her studio Viktoriia can imitate those processes which were taking places in our planet for millions of years.
Kurganskaia has been working in archeology for many years and it’s the most inspiring thing in her art practice.
Taking the archaic form as the basis, Viktoriia created artworks from local wild materials.
Viktoriia find the materials in wild nature, transform and combine them with others such as: wild clay, limestone, dolomit, magma, lava, ash, sand and others. She experiments with firings and explores the properties of materials she finds on expeditions around the world.
